With the exception of the Race Weekend all Cairngorm Cycling Club time trials are club confined which means only club members may take part with the exception of potential new members ‘trying out the club’.
The club runs 2 main sets of time trials. Both are intended to be fun while still allowing riders to monitor progress over a season. Routes, risk assessments, race briefings and details of scoring can be found here.
These run at least twice each month from the Spring clock-change using a 10 mile course from Coylumbridge up to Glenmore with a turn in the road near Hayfield and a return to Coylumbridge. Riders may use any bikes including specialist time trial bikes. Recorded times will be used to set handicaps which will be modified as necessary throughout the season. Raw results will be posted on the night and handicap scores shortly after.
This is scored best 3 out of 5 with each one each on a different course and riders should be on their normal road bikes and not specialist time trial machines. Riders do not have to do all 5 events but if they wish to set a handicap time they should do at least one Glenmore TT before their first Club TT Series ride. The 5 courses are:
In addition to the above events the club runs a 1-mile TT in August. This follows a social ride out to Glenmore and is an opportunity for members to see just how fast they can manage a standing mile on a flat stretch of road.
The GDHC takes place in September and is a 15 mile road ride with two timed uphill stages, the winner is the rider with the quickest combined time over the two stages. The ride will be of a social nature but the hill climbing flat out.
These events depend on volunteer marshals and timekeepers. It is hoped that all participants will be prepared to take their turn.
